Most of our lives are spent in and around physical structures made of Brick, Cement, Wood and Metal, whether you call it your home, office, or hotel, it is a part of us. But these things are not made by nature, there is someone who planned the whole thing and someone who designed it. And there comes professions like Architecture and Interior designers
While most of us are not aware of the difference between the two, today, both these professions are of high demand among people who are inclined towards creativity and technical aspects at the same time.
Every building tells a story, a story embedded in its walls, a story told by its creators, such stories are crafted and made to reality by both Architects and Interior designers, and thats the main reason most people gets confused between the two professions. For instance, an Architect designs the structure and spaces of the building keeping in mind all the weather conditions and technical aspects like by laws while Interior Designers take care of non structural elements as in what goes inside the building and spaces.
It is true that an Architect can do Interior designing but an Interior Designer cannot practice Architecture, Since Architecture is a licensed profession globally and by doing so they are granted the responsibility of health and safety of the occupants. While interior designers are not licensed, they are more responsible for the look and feel in a given space designed by an architect.
Who is an Architect?
Empty spaces, built to reality with perfection using delicate balance of planning, designing and execution is the work of an Architect. They are responsible for creating new, innovative, self interactive spaces that stand out and do not let the user feel like they are in just another basic space. They take care of all structural integrity of the spaces, while designing, also take care of the air flow, fire norms, earthquake restrictions and what not. They create a structure on a given space that is both functional and pleasing to the eye at the same time. All the details that are present in the building are the work of an Architect.
They also plan the basic structure of the building that includes the placement of rooms, kitchen, dining room, garden, and ensure that appropriate space is rewarded to them in accordance with the client’s requirements.
Who is an Interior Designer?
After a building is constructed, the responsibility of accessorising and
furnishing of that empty space lies with Interior Designers. As the name suggests, this profession takes care of the interior beautification of the space in an empty building keeping in mind the purpose that it will be used for.
For instance, if they get a project of a home, they take care of the woodwork that is required and the placement of the furniture, finishing colours and textures of the walls, false ceiling, lighting, curtains, rugs, Furniture placement in best possible manner that any given space can offer, they are responsible for the physical comfort of the occupant and the look and feel of the house, they take care of fabric selections, flooring options, ceiling options, space divisions, basically non structural free flowing and fixed items required in any home.
